This summer, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club sent 68 area youth to Camp Happyland in Richardsville, VA for a week of fun, education, and socialization with hundreds of other youngsters from Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs and Community Centers across the Commonwealth and Washington, D.C. 

"This is such a great highlight for our summer Club members," said Hugh Jones, The Club's Executive Director. "Camp Happyland ranks at the top for many of our Club members who look forward to this one week all year long.""

I love being able to get away from the city to enjoy being outside trying new things like the ropes course," said Joy Jefferson, a 12-year old Club member who recently returned from her third year at Camp Happyland.  "It was scary at first, but I learned to conquer my fears."  .

Sean Ryan, the new Advisory Board Chair, is a graduate of the University of Richmond and has previously served the Board for two years as vice-chair while Mike Kamphaus, a graduate of Massachusetts Bay Community College and the University of Buffalo, will serve as the new Board vice-chair after serving the Board in a general membership role the previous two years.

Ryan has been a public relations professional at The Hodges Partnership since 2003 and has previous stints as a sportswriter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, a staff writer at Inside Business and a marketing manager at Tuff Stuff Publications. He is also co-founder/editor of CollegeBaseballInsider.com and the head baseball coach for Benedictine High School. In addition to his dedication and service to The Salvation Army Richmond Area Command, Ryan is also actively involved with The Miracle League of Richmond and Comfort Zone Camp.  ... more
